Fonseca said the health fairs are being held in recognition that basic healthcare should be accessible to all, regardless of financial means or social standing.

The fairs will take place with support from the Health and Human Services departments, the St. Thomas East End Medical Center, the V.I. Dental Center, the American Cancer Society, and other organizations, according to the press release. They will provide screenings, referrals, and valuable information to residents, including displaced persons.

The fairs on Feb. 29 will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Emancipation Garden on St. Thomas; from noon to 4 p.m. at Frank Powell Park on St. John; and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park on St. Croix.

Fonseca said his committee is actively involved in organizing these events, which will offer vital services free of charge to all residents. Early detection of illnesses and awareness of available social services will benefit more citizens, he said. Information gathered about overall health and prevalent factors in the Virgin Islands community will also assist the government in allocating resources more efficiently, he said.
