USA Archery 2023 Indoor Nationals Concludes; D’Amour Finishes Third Overall

USA Archery 2023 Indoor Nationals concluded this weekend. The events took place in January and February at 12 locations across the country. This multi-site world ranking event was contested throughout the United States.

After winning the Hershey Winter Series held in Annville, Penn., on Jan. 8, on Jan. 12-15, Nicholas D’Amour won the USA Archery Indoor Nationals at the Lancaster, Penn. site.  Over a two-day period, D’Amour had scores of 586 and 585 for a total score of 1171.  This was a world-ranking STAR FITA event, eligible for points in the Open Ranking of the Indoor World Series. D’Amour was not only the winner of his division (Senior Recurve), but with a score of 1171, he was the overall winner of all divisions, including those shooting recurve, compound and barebow at the Lancaster site.

D’Amour, a Virgin Islands Olympian, was shooting as a guest in the USA Archery Indoor Nationals.  There were 705 archers in the Senior Men Olympic Recurve Division and an additional 29 archers in the Recurve (Guest) Senior Men divisions.  Competing against 735 men across the entire nation, while winning the Guest Division with a score of 1171, he finished third overall.

Brady Ellison, competing in the last week of the event in Salt Lake, Utah, scored an amazing 1195 out of a possible 1200.  Jack Williams, competing in the second week of the event in Chula Vista, Calif., shot an 1177.

This is a crowning achievement for D’Amour, who finished third in the World Archery Indoor World Series (Elite Division) and tied for third in the Open Division.

After a great Indoor Season, Team Virgin Islands will now focus on the Outdoor season at 70 meters.  As for D’Amour, his next stop will be an intense training camp in Antalya, Turkey. He will be training with both the Turkish and Brazilian Olympic Archery Teams.  After the training camp, Nicholas will stay in Antalya, Turkey, for a world-ranking event – the KBSA Spring Arrows event — March 27-31.  The Spring Arrows event will be followed by the first leg of the European Grand Prix in Lilleshall, England, April 3-8, and then the World Cup – Stage 1, back in Antalya, Turkey, April 18-23.  All of these events and the ones to follow are critical world-ranking events in the lead-up to the 2024 Paris Olympics.  Team Virgin Islands is off to a great start in its Olympic bid.
