WTJX Has a Gift for Viewers Who Support Its PBS National Pledge Drive

The Virgin Islands Public Broadcasting System, WTJX-TV Channel 12, will participate in its first-of-the-year, gift-giving, PBS National Pledge Drive. Every quarter, WTJX-TV participates in this National Pledge Drive to raise funds to assist its operations. This quarter’s PBS National Pledge Drive begins on Feb. 24 and runs through March 12.

WTJX-TV will air special programming during this period, inviting viewers to call in and pledge their support to the station. This quarter’s pledge schedule consists of special concert performances, dramas and trustworthy news programs.

In celebration of Black History Month, join “Great Performances” for a glimpse behind the curtains at opera legends Kathleen Battle and Jessye Norman’s famed concert, “The Magic of Spirituals,” airing at 10 p.m., Friday, Feb. 24. Discover how a man born into slavery became one of the most influential voices for democracy in American history in “Becoming Frederick Douglas,” airing at 9 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25. After that program, at 10:30 p.m., meet the woman who repeatedly risked her life and freedom to liberate others from slavery in Harriett Tubman: “Visionary of Freedom.” And, rounding out Black History Month, “Black Broadway: A Proud History, Limitless Future,” which airs t 10 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28, celebrates legendary performances by Black actors and iconic roles made famous by Black artists.

In entertainment, there is good news for Betty White fans. “Betty White: First Lady of Television” will air at 8 p.m., Monday, March 6. Experience the magical moments of Celine Dion’s record-breaking, sold-out 2008-2009 world tour with “Celine Dion: Taking Chances World Tour — The Concert,” airing 10 p.m., Friday, March 10. In “Les Misérables: The Staged Concert,” airing at 7 p.m., Saturday, on March 11, join the stellar cast for a staged concert of this beloved musical, seen by over 120 million people. Trace the legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix’s journey to the Atlanta International Pop Festival, an unforgettable concert on July 4, 1970, with “Jimi Hendrix: Electric Church,” airing at 10 p.m., March 13.

For British drama lovers, tune in to a special encore broadcast of “Sanditon” on Masterpiece Season 2, airing at 9 p.m. or 10 p.m., Sundays, from Feb. 26 to March 12. Learn more about the tenacious, bold, and intrepid women of Masterpiece mysteries series Miss Scarlet and the Duke, Annika and Magpie Murders in “Mysterious Women of Masterpiece Mystery,” airing at 7 p.m., Sunday, March 5; explore behind-the-scenes of the thrilling Masterpiece mystery series, “Miss Scarlet and the Duke,” with cast and crew in “Miss Scarlet & the Duke: Secrets Revealed” airing at 7 p.m., Sunday, March 12.

During the breaks, PBS will ask that donations be made to WTJX-TV. For the donation, the donator will receive a special “thank-you” gift that is specific to the program that the person is watching. Some of this year’s gifts are PBS Logo coffee mugs, DVDs of your favorite shows, wireless headphones, PBS tote bags and CDs of concerts.
