USCIS Grand Opening of St. Thomas Office Set for Feb. 5

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will hold its St. Thomas field office grand opening at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 6783 Estate Smith Bay. USCIS leadership, invited dignitaries and guests will celebrate the grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and naturalization ceremony. In attendance will be USCIS Acting District Director Anna K. Chau, USCIS USVI Director Lorelie C. Connor, and U.S. District Judge Curtis Gomez.

This is a new location for the full-service immigration office on St. Thomas.

The event will include a naturalization ceremony and the dedication of a public space to American Statesman Alexander Hamilton, who was born in the British West Indies and became one of the founding fathers of the United States. As the first U.S. Secretary of Treasury, Hamilton was the main author of the economic policies of George Washington’s administration. During his prolific career, Hamilton also excelled as a politician, legal scholar, military commander and economist.

The morning will kick off with a ribbon-cutting dedication followed by a ceremony when 10 people will become America’s newest U.S. citizens. These individuals hail from nine countries: Anguila, Antigua and Barbuda, Canada, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, and Venezuela.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is the agency that oversees the nation’s legal immigration system. The 14 employees of the St. Thomas office provide a range of immigration services, including naturalization interviews and permanent resident processing. Approximately 30 applicants and petitioners visit the office daily.
