The University of the Virgin Islands continues to monitor Tropical Storm Fiona.  According to the National Hurricane Center’s 8 a.m. advisory on Thursday, TS Fiona is located at 16.6 north and 53.6 west with maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour. Its present movement is 13 miles per hour. There are no watches or warnings in effect for the U.S. Virgin Islands at this time.

The university community is urged to secure their homes and offices for a possible weather event.

A link to UVI’s Emergency Preparedness plan can be found on UVI’s homepage (www.uvi.edu).

The UVI community is urged to check in with area representatives for updates, but other members of the university are also invited to the 2 p.m. briefing.

As the university prepares its campuses for the possible impact of TS Fiona, UVI students who live on island are encouraged to make plans to take shelter at home, should the university cancel classes.

UVI will continue to monitor the system and provide an update on Friday, Sept. 16, in the morning hours.

Please continue to monitor University communications. Status updates will be available on the homepage of the UVI website at www.uvi.edu and on social media: www.facebook.com/uvi.edu or Twitter.com/uvi_edu or instagram.com/uvi_edu
