The University of the Virgin Islands School of Education will continue its Zoom Lecture Series in observance of Counseling Awareness Month at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, April 14.  The topic to be discussed is “Being Better Than ‘OK’ — School Counselor Self-Care, Wellness and Well-Being.”

The presenter will be Xuri Maurice Allen, Ph.D., assistant professor of education.

At the end of the presentation, attendees will be able to:

  • Articulate the ethical responsibilities/mandates specific to self-care, wellness and well-being that are cited within the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Ethical Standards for School Counselors and the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics;
  • Identify unfavorable and unhealthy thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that adversely impact one’s ability to facilitate wellness and well-being for self and others (i.e., students); and
  • Employ various strategies and means that promote self-care, wellness, and well-being so one can deliver academic, social/emotional, and career development school counseling services to students and other constituency groups at an optimal level.
