VITFF Bulletin: Update of Track and Field Competitions

Michelle Smith, a high school sophomore at Montverde Academy, continued her indoor season at the 59th East Coast Invitational 2022 in Virginia Beach, Va., on Feb. 4 and 5. Smith won her 60-meter hurdle prelim in a V.I. Junior record of 9.36, which qualified her for the 60mH final. In the final, she broke her previously set 60m hurdle record by running 9.16 and finishing 2nd overall. She also competed in the 400m, finishing 3rd with a personal record time of 56.83, and she helped her team finish 2nd in the 4*200m relay with her 24.97 split.

Smith’s next competition will be the Citrus League Track and Field Championship in Winter Park, Fla.

Mikaela Smith, a senior at Austin Peay State University, continued performing well in her 2022 indoor season. She competed at the Don Denoon Invitational Track and Field Meet in Carbondale, Ill. on Feb. 4 and 5. Smith finished 1st in her heat in the 400m with a time of 59.92, and she helped her team to a 2nd place finish in the 4*400m.

She will compete next in the Bull Dog Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.

Ursinus College junior Rachel Conhoff continued her season at the NYC DIII Invitational on Feb. 5th. She finished 4th overall in the mile race in a time of 5:16.47.

Her next track meet will be the VMI Winter Classic in Lexington, Va.

Kirra Lambert, Jolly Rogers Track Club, competed in the 4th Developmental Meet at the St. Croix Educational Complex on Feb. 5. Lambert finished 1st in the U17 1500m with a personal record of 5:18.91, and she finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the U17 400m and U17 100m, running personal records of 1:05.09 and 14.70.

Makari Matthew, Jolly Rogers Track Club, competed in the 4th Developmental Meet at the St. Croix Educational Complex on Feb. 5. Matthew finished 1st in the U20 100m in 12.41, outleaning Mikey Dizon-Bumann, who came 2nd in 12.51. Dizon-Bumann finished 1st in the U20 1500m in a time of 4:28.17. Dizon-Bumann also won the U20 400m in 54.11.

Mustang Akyra Joseph, St. Croix Track Club, competed in the 4th Developmental Meet at the St. Croix Educational Complex on Feb. 5. He won the U17 100m in 13.70 and placed 1st in the U17 400m in 1:04.79.

Nathan Langley, Jolly Rogers TC, competed in the 4th Developmental Meet at the St. Croix Educational Complex on Feb. 5. Langley finished 1st in the U17 100m in 12.65 and 1st in the U17 1500m in 5:02.77.

Mustang Faith Eatmon, St. Croix Track Club, competed in the 4th Developmental Meet at the St. Croix Educational Complex on Feb. 5. Eatmon won the U13 80m in 13.05 and also finished first in the U13 300m in 55.02.

Mustang Robert Ventura, St. Croix Track Club, competed in the 4th Developmental Meet at the St. Croix Educational Complex on Feb. 5. He won the U13 80m in a personal record of 14.20, and he finished 1st in the U13 300m in 1:01.89.

Jordan Vaughn, St. Croix Track Club, competed in the 4th Developmental Meet at the St. Croix Educational Complex on Feb. 5. He finished 1st in the U20 shot put with a throw of 10.09m.

Arianna Edgar, St. Croix Track Club, competed in the 4th Developmental Meet at the St. Croix Educational Complex on Feb. 5. Edgar won the U20 shot put with a throw of 11.51m.

Johann Clendenin, St. Croix Track Club, competed in the 4th Developmental Meet at the St. Croix Educational Complex on Feb. 5. Clendenin won the Masters Division for the shot put with a throw of 7.90m.

Nicola Peters, a sophomore at Sparkman High School, competed in the Alabama State Indoor Championship 2022 in Birmingham, AL. She finished 10th overall in the 60m in 8.06. This completed a successful indoor high school season for Peters.

Sam Compton from St. Croix and currently a freshman at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. competed in the Plex Shoot Out Indoor Meet at Alvernia University on Feb. 5, where he finished 5th in the 60m dash final with a time of 7.24 seconds.
