VITFF Bulletin: Virgin Islanders in Track and Field Competitions

These are the most recent updates on Virgin Islanders who compete at the high school and college level.

Mikaela Smith, a senior at Austin Peay State University, Tenn., continued performing well in her 2022 indoor season. She competed at the Bull Dog Open track and field meet in Birmingham, Ala., on Feb. 12. Smith won the 800m race with a time of 2:13.67. Smith will compete next in the Ohio Valley Conference Championship Feb. 23 and 24, in Birmingham.

Ursinus College Junior Rachel Conhoff continued her season at the VMI Winter Classic in Lexington, Va., on Feb. 11 and Feb. 12. She finished 4th overall in the mile race with a personal best of 5:10.01. Conhoff’s next track meet will be the Centennial Conference Championships on Feb. 26 and Feb. 27.

Kirra Lambert, Jolly Rogers Track Club, competed in the 5th Developmental Meet at the St. Croix Educational Complex on Feb. 12. She finished 1st in the U17 800m in a personal record of 2:28.95 and she finished 3rd in the U17 200m in 30.07.

Makari Matthew, Jolly Rogers TC, competed in the 5th Developmental Meet at the St. Croix Educational Complex on Feb. 12. Matthew finished 1st in the U20 200m in 24.85 with Mikey Dizon-Bumann, Jolly Rogers TC, in a close 2nd in 24.91. Dizon-Bumann finished 1st in the U20 800m in a time of 2:00.79; Matthew finished 2nd in 2:19.28.

Mustang Akyra Joseph, St. Croix Track Club, competed in the 5th Developmental Meet at the St. Croix Educational Complex on Feb. 12. Joseph won the U17 200m in 27.86 and placed 2nd in the U17 800m in 2:59.71.

Nathan Langley, Jolly Rogers TC, competed in the 5th Developmental Meet at the St. Croix Educational Complex on Feb. 12. Langley finished 1st in the U17 200m in 26.37 and 1st in the U17 800m in 2:16.20.

Mustang Robert Ventura, St. Croix Track Club, competed in the 5th Developmental Meet at the St. Croix Educational Complex on Feb. 12. Ventura won the U13 600m in a personal record of 2:30.11, and he finished 2nd in the U13 150m in 26.95. Dylan Greenidge, Jolly Rogers TC, finished 1st in the U13 150m in 26.21.

Jordan Vaughn, St. Croix Track Club, competed in the 5th Developmental Meet at the St. Croix Educational Complex on Feb. 12. He finished 1st in the U20 discus with a throw of 25.49m, and he placed 1st in the U20 javelin with a throw of 24.08m.

Osaze DeMund Williams continued his indoor season at the Don Kirby Open and Elite track and field meet on Feb. 11 and Feb. 12. He finished 7th overall in the 800m in 1:54.11.

The Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation (VITFF) U20 and U17 athletes are preparing for the CARIFTA Games that will be held in Jamaica April 16-18. Electronic timing systems have been purchased for St. Croix and St. Thomas to ensure that fully automatic timing performances by the athletes are accepted for international competition qualification.
