WAPA Releases Update on St. John Electrical Substation Following Power Transformer Fire

Jean Greaux, WAPA’s Director of Corporate Communications, distributed the following update this morning:

WAPA personnel will perform air quality testing around the St. John electrical substation this morning to determine whether conditions are safe to enter the facility following last night’s fire which consumed an on-site power transformer. Once access is gained to the substation, a thorough assessment will be required to confirm the extent of any smoke damage and carry out any repairs that may be necessary.

WAPA projects restoring service to St. John’s two electrical feeders by this evening.

The Authority apologizes to the residents of St. John for the extended service interruption affecting the island.
