Waste Management to Host Holiday Bulk Waste Cleanups

The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority will hold two special holiday bulk waste cleanups — on Wednesday and again on Jan. 4 — with staff on site from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. to direct residents where to put their bulk waste.

Additional 20-yard bins will be placed at Concordia and Mon Bijou on St. Croix, at Carat Bay, Cancryn and Nazareth on St. Thomas, and at Pine Peace on St. John to accept bulk waste, white goods and household waste, the authority said in a press release.

Bulk waste is defined as large, bulky household items, such as mattresses, furniture, cabinets, shelving, doors, and plywood. White goods include such items as stoves, dryers, washing machines, refrigerators and water heaters. Household waste consists of food scraps, paper, product packaging, clothing, etc.

Commercial waste, electronic devices, fats, oils and grease, green waste and tires will not be accepted at the bin sites and must be taken to the landfills, the authority said.
