Youth To Master Logic and Strategy Games at VICM’s “Teen Time”

The Virgin Islands Children’s Museum is proud to announce the upcoming installment of Teen Time, a premier psychosocial program for adolescents (13+) and their caregivers, taking place on Friday, May 15, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Teen Time is more than a game night; it is a designated sanctuary for local youth to explore, play, and discover alongside their peers and families. In a world increasingly dominated by digital screens, Teen Time focuses exclusively on in-person, non-electronic gameplay. Participants will engage in logic-building activities including Backgammon, Dominos, Mancala, and strategic board games designed to sharpen analytical, critical-thinking, and interpersonal communication skills.

POWERFUL PARTNERSHIPS FOR YOUTH SUCCESS

This session features a multidisciplinary collaboration designed to support the “whole teen.” Qualified mathematicians from the University of the Virgin Islands will be on-site to provide math tutoring and logic-building support.

“Engaging with mathematics through strategy and traditional games allows students to see logic in action outside of a classroom setting,” says Dr. Adam Parr, Associate Professor of Mathematics at UVI. “We are thrilled to partner with the museum to help teens build the confidence and critical thinking skills they need to succeed both academically and personally.”

Traditional game facilitation will be led by Concrete Bloom and VICM educators, ensuring a rich, engaging experience for all skill levels. Refueling the body is as important as engaging the mind; VICM is honored to announce that refreshments for this session are sponsored by HeirMark. Founded by therapist and author Dr. Muria Nisbett, HeirMark bridges Caribbean traditions of storytelling and communal care with modern healing frameworks, underscoring the program’s commitment to emotional resilience.

A CALL TO ACTION FOR COMMUNITY PARTNERS & LOCAL BUSINESSES

The Children’s Museum is actively seeking community partners who specialize in youth engagement to join us as “pop-up” partners for future dates. Furthermore, we are issuing a “Big Ask” to local businesses for financial or in-kind donations. Sponsorships cover the $30-per-person cost, allowing us to offer this program FREE to all adolescents and caregivers. Support is needed for:

  • Mentorship from Community Role Models & Life Coaching for Youth
  • Healthy Food & Drink Provisions
  • Facility and Operational Space Support
