Attorney Denise George to be Honored for Her Commitment to Prevent Sexual Violence and Abuse

The National Sexual Violence Response Center identifies someone from each state and territory who has worked to prevent and respond to sexual violence in their state/territory. The 2023 recipient of the NSVRC Visionary Voice Award for the U.S. Virgin Islands is Attorney Denise N. George, the Virgin Islands Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Council announced Monday.

George is one of 24 recipients throughout the nation to have received this award. The honorees represent a wide range of disciplines from across the country and were selected for their outstanding work toward preventing sexual harassment, misconduct, and abuse. George’s contributions to victims of sexual violence/abuse in the United States Virgin Islands are overwhelming and recognized by the advocacy agencies in the territory. She remains a partner to DVSAC, the Women’s Coalition of St. Croix and the Family Resource Center on St. Thomas and St. John in the continued fight against sexual violence. As a voice for all who cannot speak, she has spoken on behalf of victims and survivors, according to the press release.

George stated, “I’m truly honored to have been selected for this award.”

Amongst others, the primary speaker on Thursday evening will be Delia Smith, Esq., U. S. Attorney for the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Justice. George will be presented with this award on Thursday at the new 7 Flags Museum, located at No. 5 Company Street in Christiansted (inside the REMAX building courtyard). The event will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Complimentary food and drinks will be available, the press release stated.
