Best of Both Worlds To Host Art Show March 19

The Best of Both Worlds will host an art show and reception featuring artist Tom Clifton on Wednesday, March 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. This is the second time the gallery has featured Clifton.

Since last year’s show, the artist has been featured on HGTV. The show is scheduled to coincide with the opening night of The St. John Blues Festival.

Clifton focuses on fusing lavish colors and textures to create a unique and captivating abstract. He developed a technique which allows him to depict the beauty of the Virgin Islands and the surrounding waters including the motion of the tide and the magnificence of the coral. All of his originals are the result of building multiple layers of textures (using a marble/coral stone compound) and acrylics, manipulating each layer until the desired result is achieved.

While the artist feels he has a vision in mind as he begins his process, each piece of art ends up taking him on a journey that unveils itself along the way. The final step in his creative process is the naming of the piece. Names such as “She Seeks Deep,” “Jewels of Neptune,” and “Brewing Storm” bring the viewer into the end result of Clifton’s journey. Guests at the show will be able to visit with the artist to learn more about his process. Clifton is a member of the Artists’ Association of St. John.

The Best of Both Worlds gallery showcases more than 100 artists and artisans and is praised by Frommer’s travel guide for its unique items and local art. The gallery is located on the upper terrace of Mongoose Junction in Cruz Bay and can be reached at 693-7005 for more information.
