Juniel Charleswell Sr. Dies

Juniel Charleswell Sr., known also as “What’s Up” or “Zulu,” died on Jan. 15.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Elias and Aniele Charleswell; brother, Noriel Harrigan Callwood; aunt, Gwenny Penn; and uncles; Phillip Thomas, Deacon Mackel and Campbell Chalwell.

He is survived by his sons: Juniel Jr., Jamal, Junel, Jamel, Jameel and Jaleel Charleswell; daughter, Naomi George;  fiancé,  Lisa Hood; adopted sons: Mackimdale Smith and Elroy Brown Jr.; adopted daughter, Nikashea Kirkland-Crawford; brothers: Ishmael “Budhead” Harrigan, Riel “Wasi,” Dariel “Dadaman,” Loryiel “Lala” and Raphael “Tanja” Charleswell; sister, Muriel Lettsome; adopted brother, Milton “Meme” Wheatley; brother-in-law, Norris Lettsome; and sisters-in-law: Donna Harrigan, Avery Charleswell and Tammy B. Ausby; grandchildren: Ezekiel, Melodee, Juniel III and J’Hournney Charleswell; and aunts: Doreen Webster, Ida Frett, Anona Chalwell, Corrin Rabsatt, Deborah James and Carmen Matthew.

He is also survived by uncles: Conrad Henley, Bishop James and Bishop Naaman Charleswell; nieces: Aisha Callwood-Alexander, Labria, JaNýla, Tessa G. and Tahyra T. Charleswell, Rysheica Nicholson and Kishma Bruney-Charleswell; nephews: Keldred, Julian and Buddy Lettsome, Le’Shawn, Le’Quean, Le’Voiy, Le’Vaar, Tahiem and Dariel Jr. Charleswell; nieces-in-law: Carolyn and Cherisse Lettsome; great-nieces: Kellisha, Kellyah, and Jada Lettsome, Keisha Lettsome-Hilaire, Rynasia Nicholson, Grace Charleswell and Ava Viveros; great-nephews: Kellani, Kellijah and Kelmani Lettsome, Caiden Todman and Akahre Heywood; and great-great nieces: Kristen Edwards, KaMyah Lettsome and Kelis Barry;

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the first viewing from 4-6 p.m., Monday, Feb. 19, at Turnbull’s Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20. The viewing will be held from 9-10 a.m. at Shiloh Seventh-day Adventist Church, with services to follow immediately at 10 a.m. Interment will be at the Eastern Cemetery, Smith Bay.
