Fatal Hit-and-Run on St. Croix

On May 14, 2022, at approximately 10:16 p.m., the Traffic Investigation Bureau was notified by the Ancilmo Marshall Command Police Station and dispatched to a collision involving a pedestrian in the Estate Catherine’s Rest area on St. Croix.

When officers arrived at the scene, there was an unresponsive male body, later identified as Mr. William T. Massey.

According to the Traffic Investigation Bureau’s preliminary investigation and the evidence at the scene, Mr. Massey was walking southbound towards his home in a well-lit area when a vehicle that was traveling in the same direction struck Mr. Massey and then dragged him several feet, leaving his body in the center of the roadway. The vehicle and the driver were not at the scene of the collision.

Dr. Guber pronounced Mr. William T. Massey dead due to sustained lacerations to the body and head and a puncture wound to the forehead.

Massey’s 56-year-old mother was notified, and she stated that he moved to St. Croix as a Retired Veteran of the armed forces.

Detectives from the Traffic Bureau canvased the Catherine’s Rest area for the vehicle involved in this collision with negative results.
