The U.S. Virgin Islands Soccer Association’s Male Under-20 national team delegation of 20 young men and coaching staff of eight is in the Dominican Republic ahead of the start of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Men’s Under-20 Qualifiers on Nov 5. The tournament will end on Nov. 13. The Dashing Eagles final tournament preparations camp is at the Cap Cana Sports City training facility.
The Dashing Eagles are one of eighteen men’s U-20 teams participating in the Qualifiers (all ranked 17 and below based on the current CONCACAF Men’s U-20 ranking), who were placed into two groups of five teams and two groups of four teams, in a draw held at Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Headquarters in Miami in September 2021. The groups are as follows:
Group A: Curacao, Grenada, Dominica, Sint Maarten and the British Virgin Islands
Group B: Dominican Republic, Saint Lucia, Belize, Saint Martin and Anguilla
Group C: Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Saint Vincent, and the Grenadines and Barbados
The USVI Dashing Eagles, currently ranked 33rd in CONCACAF, are in Group D along with Nicaragua (16th), Guyana (24th) and the Cayman Islands (29th).
Following the conclusion of the Qualifiers, 20 teams will participate in the 2022 CMU20 Championship. This will include the top four teams from the Qualifiers and the region’s 16 top-ranked men’s U-20 teams who have received a bye to the Championship.
